Sustainability

At JR Shipping Group, sustainability is no longer a separate initiative it is becoming an integral part of how we operate, invest, innovate, and grow. As an international shipping company active in container feeder shipping, short sea cargo shipping, and offshore wind support services, we recognise both the responsibility and opportunity that come with operating in a rapidly changing maritime sector.

Our latest Annual Report 2026 combines financial and sustainability reporting into one integrated publication. This reflects our belief that long-term business success and sustainable development go hand in hand.

Towards Excellence in Sustainable Short Sea Shipping

Our sustainability strategy is built around a clear ambition: “Together towards Excellence in Sustainable Short Sea Shipping”

This ambition guides our decisions across Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) topics. By combining operational excellence with continuous improvement, we aim to contribute to a future-proof maritime industry while maintaining reliable and efficient services for our customers and partners.

A Data-Driven Sustainability Approach

Over the past three years, JR Shipping Group has gradually strengthened its ESG framework.

Our first Sustainability Report focused on identifying ambitions and opportunities. The second report introduced measurable targets and a Double Materiality Assessment (DMA), helping us identify the sustainability topics that matter most to both our organisation and our stakeholders.

Today, sustainability reporting has evolved into a data-driven process. Our latest report provides a baseline measurement of our environmental, social and governance performance and establishes a solid foundation for future reporting in line with VSME principles and emerging European sustainability standards.

Understanding What Really Matters

Environmental: Reducing Our Impact

As a maritime company, we recognise our responsibility to reduce our environmental impact. JR Shipping Group continuously invests in innovative solutions that improve the sustainability and efficiency of its fleet.

Key initiatives include the successful retrofit programme across five container feeder vessels, delivering an average fuel consumption reduction of 26%, continuous emission monitoring and reporting, the development of the Next-Generation ECO Flex Feeders with an expected fuel and CO₂ reduction of up to 40%, and ongoing research into alternative fuels and emerging technologies.

Social: People First

Our people are the driving force behind our organisation. On board our vessels and within our shore-based offices, we are committed to providing a safe, healthy, and inclusive working environment where everyone has the opportunity to develop and thrive.

By investing in safety, wellbeing, training, and equal opportunities, we continue to build a resilient organisation prepared for the future.

Governance: Building Trust Through Transparency

Good governance is fundamental to sustainable business. JR Shipping Group maintains transparent governance structures, effective risk management and high standards of business ethics and compliance.

As digitalisation continues to transform the maritime industry, we also invest in cybersecurity, data protection, and digital resilience to safeguard our operations and support long-term sustainable growth.

Aligned with Global Goals

Our sustainability strategy is aligned with four United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being
SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy
SDG 13 – Climate Action
SDG 14 – Life Below Water

These goals reflect our commitment to protecting both people and the marine environment while contributing to the transition towards cleaner and more efficient shipping.

Preparing for the Future

Although JR Shipping Group is currently not required to report under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), we closely follow developments in European sustainability reporting standards.

By building a robust ESG framework today, improving data quality and increasing transparency throughout our operations, we are preparing our organisation for future reporting requirements and stakeholder expectations.

We believe that sustainable progress can only be achieved through collaboration. Therefore, we invite customers, suppliers, investors, employees and maritime partners to join us in shaping the future of sustainable shipping.

Together, we are Future Ready.
