MV Ensemble 750 TEU container feeder

Since 2005, MV Ensemble has been chartered to customers of JR Shipping in the container feeder market. Built at Daewoo Mangalia Heavy Industries, she belongs to the Volharding Shipyards 750 series.

Ensemble offers 750 TEU of container capacity, with provision for refrigerated containers and Ice Class 1A as listed in JR Shipping’s 2026 annual report. Her overall length is 134.65 metres. The vessel has a 7,200 kW MaK engine and a listed service speed of 17.5 knots.

Ensemble is one of the five feeders covered by the group’s completed retrofit programme. Changes to the bow shape and propeller blades align the vessel more closely with lower speeds and varying draughts. JR Shipping reports an average reduction in fuel consumption of 26% across the five vessels during the first months after their retrofits. The report does not give a separate fuel saving percentage for Ensemble.

The work on Ensemble is part of JR Shipping’s approach to improving vessels already in service. That approach also includes smaller changes in daily operations. Drinking water refill stations installed across the container fleet in 2025 provide filtered water for the crew and help cut the number of disposable plastic bottles used on board.
